World Health Summit and Grand Challenges Annual Meeting
In a nod to the World Health Summit's 10th anniversary, the Grand Challenges Annual Meeting organized by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation took place back-to-back with the World Health Summit in Berlin this year. In a Joint Plenary Session, German Chancellor Angela Merkel, the Norwegian Prime Minister Erna Solberg, Microsoft Founder Bill Gates, and WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus emphasized their strong support for tandem progress towards achieving the health-related Sustainable Development Goals.

Global Action Plan for Healthy Lives and Well-being for All
At the conference, the Director-General of the World Health Organization Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus presented a plan aimed at aligning cooperation among major global health organizations to help reach UN health targets. He said that "fragmentation, duplication and inefficiency are undermining progress. We must do something differently." The document was signed by eleven leading global health organizations the same day.
Charité and LSHTM agree on future cooperation
At the 2018 World Health Summit, representatives from the Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin and the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) signed a Memorandum of Understanding to enhance collaboration and cooperation in global health. The two kicked off the partnership with the announcement that a group of LSHTM researchers is to be based at the Charité to establish the initial stages of the partnership and identify joint research opportunities.
