Dear friends,
I have been heartened to see many leaders around the world making the health of our planet a priority, including at the G7 summit. Next month's UN Climate Action Summit is sure to put it at the top of even more world leaders’ agendas. Climate change and health has long been a priority for us at the World Health Summit, and this year it’s a particular focus, with two sessions on the topic.
The G7 summit also brought another major commitment to health: Germany will raise its Global Fund contribution to €1 billion, joining the EU, Canada, Italy, and Switzerland in stepping up investment in combating AIDS, TB, and malaria.
Health is a political choice, and these leaders show it's a feasible one.
In mid-September we celebrate the 250-year birthday of Alexander von Humboldt, the first scientist to develop an ecological understanding of nature. That holistic view still shapes our approach today: It is clear that we can no longer separate the health of people from the health of the planet.
See you at the World Health Summit 2019!
